Oil and gas – essential in today's world
Oil and gas are essential for meeting the world's energy needs and ensuring energy security in Europe. Energy is the foundation of all human activity – and oil is one of the world's most important energy sources. And although the consumption of oil and gas results in greenhouse gas emissions, both will be an important part of the energy transition.
Equinor is built on oil and gas. This is where we have built our core competence over 50 years, and it is the development of this competence that has enabled us to enter new energy markets.
It is also this competence that continually allows us to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from our oil and gas operations.
Wind power and other renewables
The transition to renewable energy is made possible by our knowledge from oil and gas.
Our ambition is to be among the leading players in offshore wind, drawing on our offshore experience to drive the industry forward. We are also investing in onshore renewable energy, such as solar energy and onshore wind power, both of which play a crucial role in the energy transition.
High-value growth is the mantra for our renewable energy efforts.
Low-carbon solutions
Decarbonizing our oil and gas production is a crucial part of Equinor's transition to a low-carbon future. We are already one of the world's most CO2-efficient producers of oil and gas, and our ambition is to maintain this leading position.
At the same time, we are also developing new solutions and value chains that can help decarbonize other industries and the energy system in general.
We are continually taking new steps in low-carbon technologies such as carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCS/CCUS), hydrogen, and electrification.
Technology and innovation
Technology development and innovation are a central part of Equinor's history. It will also be essential for the company's future. We have been, and still are, a pioneer when it comes to offshore oil and gas. And we are determined to lead the way in new areas, such as floating offshore wind, C02 storage, and hydrogen.
Digitalization is important to and affects all areas in Equinor. From efficient digital work tools, robotization and remote operations, to advanced data analysis that contributes to increased production of oil and gas as well as electricity from offshore wind.
We intend to build on the competence and experience we have and thus develop in new areas. To succeed, we must enable our own innovators and collaborate with external partners.
