For more than 36 years, Equinor has delivered safe and reliable energy to help power American society.
As a core country in Equinor’s international portfolio, the US presents a world-class opportunity set across oil & gas, renewable energy, and low-carbon value chains.
We’ve invested more here than in any other country outside of our Norwegian home base.
Equinor has quickly become a leader in America’s growing offshore wind industry. We see even greater potential for the future development of renewables and offshore wind in the US.
We are an international broad energy company who has been turning natural resources into energy for people and progress for society for more than 50 years. Our ambition is to be a leading company in the energy transition, breaking new ground, creating value and supplying society with reliable energy while achieving net zero by 2050.
Does a future exist where we can ensure enough energy for everyone, while also being good stewards of our planet?
The world needs more energy — but it must be affordable, reliable, accessible. How will we do it?
By accelerating the energy transition — growing our portfolio in renewable energy, cutting greenhouse gas emissions from oil and gas production, and developing technology that accelerates decarbonization.
By the time the global population reaches 9 billion in 2050, our goal is to be a net-zero company: delivering the energy the world needs, without contributing to global warming.
That’s why we believe the energy transition is the defining opportunity of our time.
Can a wind turbine generate more than electricity?
At Equinor, we’re planning to power US homes with homegrown, renewable energy. But there’s more.
As a broad energy company with an ambition to reach net-zero by 2050, we’re pursuing the development of offshore wind projects on both coasts of the US and quickly becoming a leader in the country’s growing offshore wind industry.
That way we’re not only helping to provide homes and industries with clean power while generating value, but also helping the US to meet its climate goals.
The US East Coast is one of the most attractive growth markets for offshore wind in the world. Empire Wind will deliver homegrown, renewable electricity to New York.
This is a game-changing project for our offshore wind business in the US and demonstrates our ambition to be a leading company in the energy transition. As part of the Empire Wind project, Equinor will develop New York’s first offshore wind port, the South Brooklyn Marine Terminal, serving as a hub for the industry in the United States.
Equinor has entered into a swap transaction with bp, under which Equinor will take full ownership of the Empire Wind lease and projects and bp will take full ownership of the Beacon Wind lease and projects.
On the West Coast, Equinor is developing one of the United State’s first floating offshore wind projects of California.
The 2 GW project, Atlas Wind, lies off the state’s central coast and has the potential to generate enough energy to power approximately 1.7 million California homes.

Hydrogen & CCS
Hydrogen: a fuel of the future
Hydrogen and carbon capture and storage have the potential to play a critical role in decarbonization, including in hard-to-abate sectors such as cement and steel.
We aim to create a low-carbon energy hub in the United States, leveraging our experience in key European hydrogen projects.
Bayou Bend is a joint venture owned by Chevron, Talos Energy and Equinor to develop a carbon capture and storage facility in Southeast Texas.
The project is positioned to be the leading transportation and storage solution in one of the largest industrial corridors in the country by sequestering carbon dioxide (CO2) safely and permanently underground.
We’re innovating with others to shape the energy of the future
The need for a low carbon future poses new challenges that require partnerships, collaboration and innovative minds to create new energy solutions.
We recognize that we’re not the only ones with big ideas for sustainable ways to power the world. That's why we closely partner with industry peers, NGOs and leading academic institutions. Many of these partnerships are led from the United States, one of our key innovation hubs.
Our people are at the heart of everything we do, and we’re building a workforce that reflects the diversity of the business and communities that we operate in.
Join us and work to shape the energy of the future! Over the last 30 years we have strengthened our presence in the US, employing a thousand people in all of our US office locations.
Our people are the most essential part of our company, and that’s why safety and security is our top priority. We focus on preventing all accidents related to people, assets and the environment by creating a strong culture of safety that is at the core of our procedures and operations in every facility.
