Roncador: a strategic partnership

Roncador was the largest offshore discovery in Brazil in the 1990s and currently has a production potential of nearly 150,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. It is also the largest producing field outside the Brazilian pre-salt area, with approximately 10 billion barrels of oil equivalent originally in the reservoir.

In 2018, Equinor and Petrobras formed a strategic alliance for the field. The partnership between Petrobras, the world’s largest deepwater operator, and Equinor, with its extensive expertise in Improved Oil Recovery (IOR), has been a game changer for the field, where we aim to increase production by more than 1 billion barrels of oil equivalent.

The strategic alliance agreement also includes an energy efficiency program and carbon dioxide emission reduction in Roncador.

Technology to optimize production

The systematic process for Improved Oil Recovery (IOR) has already shown significant results, with the first eight wells achieving a 50% reduction in costs and contributing to a 25% increase in field production.

Our partnership in Roncador is an example of how we can add value to production while demonstrating the potential to leverage new technologies.
