We rank as the world's third largest net seller of crude oil with more than two million barrels of crude and condensate (light oil) traded every day.
The crude oils that Equinor sells are mostly high-quality grades of medium to high API, with a low sulphur content. Here, we provide details of the crude and condensate qualities that we sell.
To provide additional transparency on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions for crude blends offered by Equinor, the GHG intensities of crude blends from Equinor-operated fields* is documented. The GHG intensities are obtained by allocating scope 1 and scope 2** GHG emissions (kg CO2 equivalents) from the previous reporting year, to the crude oil produced (barrels) during the previous reporting year. The resulting GHG intensities are provided in the published assays.
*GHG intensities are calculated basis free on board (FOB) field for sales blends for commingled fields, and may therefore include crude volumes and associated production-related emissions from fields operated by others. The methodology is verified by DNV Business Assurance Norway AS.
**Scope 1 emissions are emissions from operations owned or controlled by the reporting company. Scope 2 emissions hereunder are emissions from generation of purchased or acquired electricity, steam, heating, or cooling consumed by the reporting company.
For each crude oil type, there is a commercial assay based on a representative sample of the crude.
