Successful tie-in of the Langeled pipeline

The southerly part of the Langeled gas pipeline was successfully tied in on Monday 22 May.

This part of the pipeline runs between the Statoil operated Sleipner East field in the North Sea and Easington on the British east coast.

The 1,200-kilometre-long pipeline will carry gas from the Ormen Lange field to the processing plant at Nyhamna, in mid-Norway, via Sleipner to Easington.

From October this year, gas export will commence via Sleipner to Easington through the new Norwegian gas export pipeline.

The northerly part of Langeled, between Sleipner and Nyhamna, will be complete in 2007.

Statoil is responsible for the planning and execution of pipelaying in conjunction with Hydro, development operator for the Ormen Lange field.

“The tie-in operation has gone very well,” says Statoil’s project manager for Langeled, Jan Henrik Hatlestad.
