Equinor Ventures invests in HySiLabs – a novel hydrogen carrier with no energy needed for the release of hydrogen

(UTC)Last modified

Equinor Ventures is pleased to announce an investment in HySiLabs SAS, a France-based company developing a novel silica-based carrier for transportation and storage of hydrogen. Equinor Ventures led the €13 million Series A financing round.

HySiLabs has raised €13 million in a Series A financing round. The investor consortium also includes the European Innovation Council Fund, EDP Ventures, and private investor PLD Group.

The funding will support the continued development of Hydrosil, HySiLabs’ novel silica-based liquid hydrogen carrier. Unlike other carrier molecules, including ammonia, Hydrosil requires no energy added for the release of hydrogen – only water and a catalyst.

Lars Klevjer, head of Equinor Ventures, commented “A hydrogen carrier that requires no energy for release is a very interesting proposition in today’s energy market. The hydrogen economy is in real need of groundbreaking solution like this. We are thrilled to announce our latest investment in HySiLabs to support further their exceptional team and contribute to the development of their game changing solution”.
