Statoil has signed a contract with DOF ASA for the delivery of a new supply vessel.
The contract has a duration of five years with start-up after the vessel has been delivered during the second half of 2008.
The vessel, an Aker PSV 06 CD, is under construction at Aker Yards in Brattvåg near Ålesund in western Norway. With a deck area of about 1,000 square metres, it will have a length of 95 metres, and weigh 5,200 deadweight tonnes. The ship also has good systems below deck for transporting bulk products.
It will be one of Statoil's first ships with a "clean" design, which includes a double hull to protect the diesel and oil tanks.
This is in line with Statoil's environmental profile. Clean design also entails lower emissions from the vessel's engines.
The newbuilding will be a supplement to Statoil's pool of supply vessels. It has not been decided which areas of the Norwegian continental shelf the ship will serve.
