Hydro's Nore named IGU top

October 20, 2005, 09:00 CEST

Head of Hydro's Moscow office, Petter Nore, has been named general secretary of the International Gas Union (IGU), effective October 2007.

When Nore begins as IGU general secretary, the association's secretariat will have moved to offices at Hydro's facilities in Oslo.

The announcement of Nore's appointment was made in Beijing on October 19. A total of 81 delegates from member countries and associate members from most of the world's oil and gas companies were present.

"Gas is the world's preferred fuel and its global market share will continue to grow. This appointment reflects Norway's growing importance as a gas supplier," Nore says.

Membership in IGU is steadily growing and currently represents some 95 percent of the world's gas production and consumption.

The appointment will not affect Nore's position as head of Hydro's office in Moscow.
