A contract to rehabilitate the energy infrastructure at Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts, has been awarded to Statoil Energy.
The US subsidiary is to concentrate on four buildings in downtown Boston, where the university has facilities for medical research.
Under the deal, Statoil Energy will ensure that energy costs in these premises are reduced by more than USD 1 million per annum while optimum use is made of the research and teaching facilities.
More than 60 different heating and air conditioning systems are due to be removed, with a new centralised installation for hot and cold water being installed.
A closed water circulation system will also be implemented to make the university independent of public water supplies. In addition, the contract covers installation and upgrading of a lighting system for Tufts which will make better use of energy.
