Equinor’s third quarter 2022 safety development

(UTC)Last modified

The serious incident development in Equinor has improved in the third quarter of 2022, compared to our second quarter reporting.

The personal injury frequency during the past 12 months is flat. No incidents with major accident potential have been recorded in the third quarter.

The serious incident frequency, SIF, (number of serious incidents per million hours worked) was 0.4 at the end of the third quarter of 2022. More than half of these incidents were related to dropped objects.

The total recordable injury frequency, TRIF, (number of injuries requiring medical treatment per million hours worked) during the past 12 months was 2.4. Serious personal injuries are also included in the serious incident frequency.

Eight oil and gas leaks have been recorded during the past 12 months, a reduction from 12 at the end of 2021.

“It is encouraging to see the result of the work we do every day to improve safety, but we still have a potential for further improvement, together with our suppliers,” says Jannicke Nilsson, Equinor’s executive vice president for Safety, Security & Sustainability.

Equinor gathered executives from several of our key suppliers during the ONS conference in Stavanger to share learning on how to jointly address common challenges.

“Interaction with our suppliers is essential to keep improving our safety results. Dropped objects and personal injuries were the topics of discussion this time,” says Nilsson.

Enhanced state of alert

As a result of Norwegian authorities raising the state of alert on the Norwegian continental shelf, Equinor decided in September to raise the state of alert for its assets in Norway. All office locations, installations and onshore plants in Norway are covered by these security measures.

“The state of alert in Norway has been elevated and our emergency preparedness strengthened, but there are no specific security threats against the nation or Equinor. The safety of our people and those who work for us is our main priority,” underlines Nilsson.

Through the alwayssafe.no annual wheel Equinor is cooperating with other operator companies and external suppliers. In the fourth quarter we will cooperate in particular on creating a health-promoting working environment.
