New Snohvit contractor

June 7, 2002, 13:15 CEST

A letter of intent has been concluded by Statoil today, 7 June, with AFS-Pihl Group on blasting and levelling work at the site of the Snøhvit plant on Melkøya outside Hammerfest in northern Norway.

“We signed a letter of intent with NCC Norway in February to do this work,” says senior vice president Egil Gjesteland, who is responsible for the Snøhvit development in the Barents Sea.

“But the delays to the project in recent months mean that we as operator have opted to change contractor.”

The new contract is estimated to be worth just over NOK 700 million.

Levelling work should begin in late June or early July, with completion in the fourth quarter of 2003. The site will then be ready for installing the process plant and four storage tanks.

Plans call for the gas liquefaction plant on Melkøya to be ready in late 2005/early 2006.

AFS-Pihl Group is a joint venture between AF-Spesialprojekt in Norway and Denmark’s E Pihl & Søn.
