A new research and demonstration centre for hydrogen in Trondheim is being planned by Statoil in partnership with power generator Statkraft and classification society Det Norske Veritas.
The aim is to develop environment-friendly, profitable and safe solutions for producing hydrogen, which can be used as vehicle fuel and in combined heat and power stations.
Located at Tyholt in the mid-Norwegian city, this Hydrogen Technology Research Centre (Hytrec) has a cost framework of NOK 55 million and is due to be completed in early 2007.
It will represent an important contribution in a national Norwegian commitment to laying the groundwork for a future hydrogen market.
