Statoil has commenced test production of gas from the Gullfaks South satellite field. The gas is produced via the Gullfaks C platform in the North Sea.
This is a stage in the Gullfaks satellites phase II development project.
Tore Bech, platform manager on Gullfaks C, reports that the first well came on stream on 16 September, and that all four satellite wells are now supplying the gas volumes as expected. The processing equipment on board will be tested out for another couple of weeks, and the daily gas volume will vary in this period.
âThere is still some work outstanding on the new gas facilities, which we hope to have ready shortly,â adds Ms Bech.
Gullfaks satellites phase II is developing the gas deposits in the Gullfaks South and Rimfaks fields. Supplies from Gullfaks South will begin on 1 October and produced volumes will gradually reach 10 million cubic metres of gas per day.
This volume will increase to 17 million cubic metres per day from the autumn of 2003. Until then, the A platform will be modified in order to receive gas from both Gullfaks South and Rimfaks. The platform will then contribute approximately four million cubic metres per day of the total gas production from the satellite fields.
